BT Together Option 1 - new call plan - a rip off for people using other telecom providers?

I might be barking up the wrong tree here but based on my latest BT telephone bills it seems that:

1. BT have got rid of the line rental only option and moved all those customers to BT Together Option1 which costs £1 a month more than standard line rental.
2. This is supposed to offer some benefits like cheaper calls etc BUT
3. If you use Carrier Pre Select to make your calls with other providers such as Telco or Totalise ot OneTel then you are being ripped off as all your calls are routed through the other Telco and you dont benefit from the BT Together Option 1 savings etc.

Is this right or have I got the wrong end of the stick? If some one know otherwise please say so.

I only its only a £1 a month but I dont like the idea of BT getting a £1 extra out of me every month for line rental when I am not going to get anything extra out of it!

I`m with one tel & I will have to pay the extra. Yes it is a rip off & Offtel (BT 2) won`t do anything about it. I heard about it a while ago. Why should I pay `line rental` to BT. It`s about time the line rental was done away with & handed out to all telecom companies.

erm... It`s BT basically trying to get customers back with them. It`s already causing ructions.

But.. perfectly legal. check with OFCOM.

in regard to line rental.

BT own the actual Telephone going to, and into your home. Their charge pays for the use and upkeep of that line.

Just change to NTL or another telcoms provider if you don`t want them to charge line rental to you, somebody else will.

oh, OFCOM, the independant Watchdog, replaced OFTEL. OFTEL restricted BT (as it was the ONLY telcoms provider) since it`s privatisation in the early 80`s so NTL and other providers could gain customers with great deals.. OFCOM as OFTEL did, Watch BT like a hawk. and come down on them like a ton of bricks if they try anything funny. In fact, The Telecom providers are basically at war, day in day out. seriously. how do I know?.... I do :-)

Personally I always redirect my calls through call18866 - much cheaper than BTs anytime!. So I only pay for BT line rental - I guess it will effect me so I`d better see by how much.

Martin Lewis went nuts about this BT ripoff a couple of weeks back on Radio 2. There`s a story on his site somewhere!

So I`ve heard. I also heard that BT actually developed Broadband technology around 6-10 years ago, but watchdogs prevented them from using it as it would absolutely stomp all over the competition. Makes you wonder what we`re missing out on right now.

erm.... spot on again... :/

ok. as I work for them, I can`t tell you what we`re working on, but there is some nice stuff on it`s way if we can get OFCOM clearance. and then if NTL etc don`t cry like baby`s and complain,...... :(

Just shown this to the wife & who smugly informs me (dont you just hate it when they do that ;) ) that One-Tel have knocked a quid off the monthly charge to compensate.

If you pay the line charge by standing order you get the £1 a month back.
